Vijay Kanakamedala made his directorial debut with Naandhi. Now, he is gearing up for his next project, Bhairavam, starring Bellamkonda Sai Sreenivas. The team will release the film in theaters on May 30, 2025.
However, the film has recently landed in controversy. A social media campaign to boycott Bhairavam gained momentum yesterday. Notably, fans of Ram Charan and Chiranjeevi are leading the movement. The uproar began after an old Facebook post resurfaced. Allegedly, it showed Vijay liking or sharing a meme mocking the Mega family. Specifically, the meme was based on the Bollywood film Paa. However, the title was changed to “Cha,” which appeared to target Chiranjeevi and Ram Charan in a derogatory way.
In response to the backlash, Vijay Kanakamedala apologized on social media. He explained that the post dates back to 2011. Moreover, he claimed that someone either hacked his account at that time or fabricated the post using his name. “Whatever the reason, I sincerely apologize,” he said.
Furthermore, Vijay emphasized his long-standing admiration for the Mega family. He reminded fans that he worked as an assistant director on Gabbar Singh and has always respected Chiranjeevi, Pawan Kalyan, and Ram Charan.
